In these unprecedented times, it’s important to have a private aviation consultant on your side that’s willing to go the extra mile.
That’s exactly what Essex Aviation did for one Northeast-based high net worth client. The client initially expressed an interest in acquiring a Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft for both business and personal use. After the client considered Essex’s analysis of their unique travel requirements, the acquisition and search process quickly transitioned instead to a Bombardier Global 6000. During their assessment of the pre-owned market for Global 6000, Essex identified two primary candidates, both of which were based in Asia.
Not long after Essex began working with the client to identify the primary candidate aircraft to acquire, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Naturally, this presented certain challenges. Although Essex would typically perform a preliminary inspection and review aircraft records at the aircraft’s home base, the United States halted travel in and out of the country due to safety concerns.
Fortunately, the seller’s management company was very accommodating. They had maintained detailed electronic records for the four-year-old aircraft, which they provided Essex full access to review, and sent over detailed videos of the interior and exterior of the aircraft. After reviewing this information, Essex scheduled a Zoom call with the seller’s management company to perform a virtual walkthrough to replicate the preliminary inspection experience.
From there, Essex Aviation continued to support the client in other aspects of the aircraft acquisition process, including:
- Reviewing aircraft management company candidates
- Negotiating the final management company agreement
- Assisting in the onboarding of the aircraft with the management company
- Assisting with the interviewing of candidate flight department staff
- Working with the lender on financing the aircraft
- Working with the management company to identify a third-party service center to complete some post-closing aircraft refurbishment and new exterior paint
- Supporting the refurbishment design and material selection process
- Providing ongoing support and maintaining vendor relationships during the post-closing refurbishment work
The client has also asked Essex to provide ongoing consulting services, including reviewing monthly invoices and assisting with the overall operating cost analysis and tracking for the aircraft.
Given the circumstances, other private aviation consulting firms might have shied away from this project, but Essex Aviation was ready and willing to rise to the occasion. Thanks to their signature due diligence, process and dedication, the Essex Aviation team was able to safely procure the Global 6000 to the client and deliver exceptional results.
